Regarding the Importance of Pursuing Two States

La acest General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America (la care a participat si B.Netanyahu) trebuia sa fie prezent si sa cuvinteze Obama ..., care insa a fost nevoit sa anuleze (Fort Hood).
In locul lui s-a prezentat si vorbit the White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel (am taiat vreo 2/3 din clip ..., pentru a-l limita la subiect).

Regarding the Importance of Pursuing Two States.
Now there are some on both sides who are prepared to give up the pursuit of two states. ... But all of us – particularly those who are friends of Israel – must step back and think about the future to which that would lead.
For the Israeli people, it means living indefinitely amidst hostile neighbors that fail to recognize its right to exist, threatened by ever more sophisticated weaponry.
And for Israel’s democracy, it means attempting to preserve a democratic state – a Jewish state – when Jews will soon be a minority west of the Jordan River. Demographics cannot be denied.
For Palestinians, it means abandoning the creation of two states while the population increases under the false hope that this measure will eventually overwhelm Israel and lead to its demise. The fact is Israel will not let this happen; the United States will not let this happen; and President Obama will not let this happen.

Addressing the U.S.-Israel Relationship
As the president has said many times, as the president said in Cairo, Egypt, the bond between the United States and Israel is unbreakable. It is a bond rooted in shared interests and shared values. … There are some who suggest that this [negotiations] implies a diminished level of support for Israel, or would come at Israel’s expense. That is not the intent, and that is not the case and never will be. The truth is just the opposite. For it is only through dialogue that we can achieve lasting peace that Israel seeks.

Addressing the Responsibilities of Palestinians and the Arab World
Make no mistake, the path towards peace is not one that Israel should be asked to walk alone. That is why the U.S. will remain actively engaged, standing next to Israel as its one true friend as it takes each step towards peace and takes that risk. It’s why the Palestinians should come to the table, recognize Israel’s right to exist, and reject the incitement to violence against Israeli citizens. It is why the other Arab states in the region must meet their responsibilities to the peace process as well. ... As the president said in Cairo, the Arab-Israeli conflict should no longer be used to distract the Arab nations from other problems. Instead, it must be a cause for action to help Palestinian people develop the institutions that will sustain their state and to recognize Israel’s legitimacy.

Yitzchak Rabin, despre united Jerusalem (1995):
"... The borders of the State of Israel, during the permanent solution, will be beyond the lines which existed before the Six Day War.
We will
NOT return to the 4 June 1967 lines.

First and foremost, united Jerusalem
which will include both Ma'ale Adumim and Givat Ze'ev –
as the capital of Israel, under Israeli sovereignty, while preserving the rights of the members of the other faiths, Christianity and Islam, to freedom of access and freedom of worship in their holy places, according to the customs of their faiths"
.

(from the speech of former Israeli PM - Yitzchak Rabin,
delivered to the Knesset on October 5, 1995 - just days before his assassination.)

History behind the "Jerusalem Embassy Act" in US Congress:

In the mid 1990s, Congress passed the "Jerusalem Embassy Act" stating that
"Jerusalem should be recognized as the capital of the State of Israel; and the United States Embassy in Israel should be established in Jerusalem".
The act was adopted by the Senate and the House,
but ...
former US President Bill Clinton used his authority to suspend the relocation, citing national security concerns...
then, former President George Bush ...,
who vowed to relocate the embassy during his 2000 elections campaign, failed to keep his word upon entry to the White House, after his advisors outlined to him the dangers such a move could pose in the Middle East and on US embassies around the Arab and Muslim world.

Chiar si actualul Presedinte US Obama (spre al meu regret...),
a folosit deja waiveru` legat de mutarea ambasadei US la Jerusalem.

Se pare ca in prezent ...
a group of seven senators are working on legislation that will support maintaining a united Jerusalem.
The proposal will also include a decision to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, by circumventing the US president's authority to hinder the decision.

Sa vedem, ce-o sa iasa ...

psssst !! mare secret mare:

"DEBKAfile sources add that on the road to clearing impediments for better and more comprehensive strategic understandings, the US president and Israeli prime minister agreed to disagree on some issues including construction in Jerusalem, which Israel would routinely pursue, Washington routinely protest and the Palestinians treat justifiably as a major reverse.
At the same time, a high degree of US-Israeli cooperation would go forward on the Palestinian question and, most of all ...,
the two leaders would work together on the looming nuclear threat rushing forward from Tehran, although here too certain US administration elements are trying to rock the boat..."
